What is the NEET 2020 Counseling Process?

NEET counseling process can be a little confusing for the candidates and this is the reason why we have explained it in detail over here. The first thing to know is that counseling procedure is not done by NTA and it has got nothing to do with it. NTA is only responsible for conducting NEET exam and declaring result. Once this main process is over than many other significant authorities come forward to carry on with the process and the beginning is done from counseling.

Basically there are three main types of counseling which are- Central Counseling, State Counseling and AYUSH; we will be discussing all three types one by one-

  1. Central or All India Quota (AIQ) Counseling:

All the major Central and Deemed Universities such as AMU, AIIMS and BHU are included in the counseling process. Apart from these universities, 15% seats of all the government medical and dental colleges are also occupied through the AIQ counseling. Candidates from PAN India can participate in this counseling process.
Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) is the main authority that conducts AIQ counseling. Candidates who qualify the examination can participate in the AIQ counseling by MCC.

The state of Jammu and Kashmir is exception to AIQ counseling, as it opted out of it. Thus, state quota counseling is the only way to get admissions in the colleges of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

2. State Quota Counseling:

State Quota Counseling is conducted for admissions into the remaining 85% seats of Government Medical and Dental Colleges. All the seats that are left in the Private Medical and Dental Colleges, which are located in a specific state, are also under this counseling process. However, the state quota seats are reserved for the candidates domiciled in that particular state only. Candidates that belong from any other state are not eligible to participate in this counseling process.

3. AYUSH Counseling:

For AYUSH courses counseling procedure is conducted by a separate body which is the AYUSH Admissions Central Counseling Committee (AACCC). This committee is responsible to carry out the admission process for all the Deemed AYUSH universities in India.
